An exciting West Coast jet boat journey on the Taramakau River takes you up river and to the mouth at the Tasman Sea. Weather and river conditions permitting.
Exploring scenic West Coast farm land, stunning waterfalls, rock formations at the gold dredge tailings, through deep cliff gorges to pools of salmon and trout, the Jacksons Retreat Scenic Jet Boat Tour is an unforgettable experience and the ultimate Kiwi outdoor adventure.
The tour is family friendly. All safety equipment is provided and on board an entertaining commentary of historical and cultural stories, told by your experienced skipper and owner/host Bevan of Jacksons Retreat Holiday Park.
We provide life jackets, as well as a courtesy bus transfer from the Junction Honey Café to and from the launch site. You will need to bring a warm hat and jacket (in winter months), camera/video camera (at your own risk) and sunglasses.
The meeting point for the jet boat ride is at Junction Honey Café. The café is located at Kumara Junction, which is where SH73 meets SH6 between Greymouth and Hokitika, 3 roads, very near the coastline.

One hour scenic tour priced from $110 per adult, $55 for child 15 years and under.
Minimum of four persons per trip. Refer booking days and times on bookings page. Each tour takes 9 people including the skipper.
Minimum age of four years, children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Please let skipper know of any medical conditions or if you suffer from back or neck problems.
At Jacksons Retreat
Ngarimu Walking Track – begins from bush tent sites
Take a beautiful bush walk up to the historic quartz mine where quartz was crushed for its gold content. Meander your way through pristine native bush to view the abandoned workings, or take the 20 minute bush walk to the waterfall.
Walk time: 2.5 hours return (to quartz mine site); 40 minutes return (waterfall walk)
Ability: Medium fitness
Glow worms - on Ngarimu Track
Glow worms can be seen at night at the waterfall track turn-off; there are several other places around our park to view glow worms. Please enquire at our office about complimentary torch use.
Fishing – Lakes and river close by
Fish for whitebait and salmon in the Taramakau River or spend a relaxing afternoon fishing for trout on Lake Poerua or Lake Brunner. Please enquire at office regarding fishing seasons; a licence is required.
Biking
A wonderful area for both experienced and less-experienced riders with great roads and wonderful scenery. We also have free bike hire for guests- please enquire at the office.
Tramping
From short walks to hikes for experienced trampers, there are a range of trails for different abilities. Delivery and pickup to popular track entrances can be arranged with your booking.
Skiing
Try snow-skiing in the Temple Basin, just 25 minutes (30km) from Jacksons Retreat. If water is your thing, have a go at water-skiing on Lake Brunner, just 15 minutes (17km) from the holiday park.
Boating
Go boating close by on the local Taramakau River or try more peaceful Lake Poerua or Lake Brunner.
